Becky Brown, of Niles, volunteers with the Niles Service League.

How long have you been volunteering with Niles Service League?

Over seven years ago, I started working with Niles Service League. At first I was just a member, then three years ago, I decided to take a step up and join our board. With that decision, two years ago, I became the vice president of the League. I am now in the process of merging to the president.

Becky Brown

Describe what you do as a volunteer.

I personally conduct all of our meetings and help with organization, so we can volunteer. As a volunteer, we focus on helping children in the Niles, Buchanan and Brandywine area. All volunteers work with children who have special needs and/or need assistance with clothing. We participate in food drives, bell ringing for the Salvation Army and donating to families around Christmas. Volunteers also give out college scholarships and camperships.

Why did you choose to volunteer with Niles Service League?

I wanted to be around a group of women who helped give back to the community. It’s a rewarding feeling and I’ve made lifelong friendships with the people involved with this league.

What do you enjoy the most about volunteering?

Helping the children is the most enjoyable and rewarding part of it all. Being able to put a smile on anyone’s face is nice. I know what we do really benefits the community and I enjoy that.

Why would you encourage others to get involved with Niles Service League?

I encourage everyone to get involved if they have a passion for helping others, specifically children. It’s a very rewarding group to be a part of. To become a member, you can reach out on our Facebook account or go to nilesserviceleague.com. I am also the president, so they could reach out to me at (574) 315-5534.

Is there any other information you want to share regarding upcoming events for Niles Service League?

Our 85th anniversary is coming up. To celebrate, we will be hosting a luncheon on June 8.
