THREE OAKS — Five Berrien County students were recognized for citizenship by the Rebecca Dewey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Saturday.
The local DAR chapter hosted a reception celebrating the DAR Good Citizen awards at the Three Oaks United Methodist Church.
Students recognized with the award included:
• Alexandra Ziebarth, Niles High School
• Maya Schuhknecht, Buchanan High School
• Jessie Rose Rieth, River Valley High School
• Maxwell Robert Folino, New Buffalo High School
• Reagan M. Smith, Bridgman High School
The DAR Good Citizen Program seeks to recognize outstanding young people who exhibit the qualities of good citizenship in their homes, schools and communities. The DAR Good Citizen program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited by their state board of education.
Each school may honor only one senior class student per year. The students selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen have the following traits: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Senior students are given a topic to write a patriotic essay.
Rieth’s essay was the top winner. Her essay will go on in the competition in the state DAR.
Each student reserved a check.
