Little qualifies for state finals in two events

STURGIS — Dowagiac senior Shawn Little will compete in a pair of events at the Division 2 state track and field finals at Zeeland High School June 1.
Little qualified for the state meet in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters by finishing second in both events with times of 4:28.65 and 9:25.70 respectively.
Little was the lone Dowagiac boy or girl to qualify for the state finals.
Wolverine Conference foe Otsego swept the boys and girls team championships.
Dowagiac finished 12th in the boys meet, while the girls team was 14th.
Two-time defending regional champion Niles finished fourth, while Edwardsburg was ninth.
The Edwardsburg girls team was fifth and Niles eighth.
The Vikings had two individual regional championships, while their 1,600-meter relay team also grabbed first place.
Jordan Gourley was first in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.06.
Jordon Brown won the 400-meter dash with a time of 22.55.
Brown anchored the winning relay team, which also consisted of Austin Brookins, Adam Shepherd and Javon Ball, that posted at time of 3:28.19.
Niles also had a pair of individual regional champions in the girls meet as Morgan Warren won the shot put with a toss of 33-8 and Marika Ruppart won the high jump with a height of 5-2.
Edwardsburg’s Kaitlyn Zarycki captured the regional championship in the 200 meters with a time of 27.36.
