EDWARDSBURG — A brand new firetruck with all the bells and whistles has made its way to Edwardsburg.
Monday at Ontwa Township’s regular board meeting, Bruce Stack, the Edwardsburg Fire Chief, brought the new 2020 fire truck in for the people of Ontwa township to see.
“There’s a thousand gallons of water, 20 gallons of foam. We tried to get it as identical to the 2015 cab that we have,” Stack said. “This one is totally for fighting fires. It will replace the 2000 truck we have now. There is quite a price difference in 19 years, after checking files at home that one was $195,000 and this one was just under $550,000.”
There were many people from Ontwa Township at the meeting to see the new truck being displayed as Stack explained the new vehicle.
“It’s state of the art, multiplex system, meaning there’s no switches in it. Everything is run from a touch screen. It’s pretty much a sister truck to the one we have now,” Stack said. “We’d like to thank the community for the support we get to buy new equipment like this. We probably have the largest fire department in the county. We’re covering the second most populated area in the county between Ontwa, Jefferson and the Milton area, and we’re totally volunteer.”
In other news:
• Cass County Commissioner Roseann Marchetti spoke at the meeting about other topics of note that have been happening or will happen in the county.
“Cass County Medical Care Facility was one of two counties to get an overall five-star rating across the board in four categories which were overall rating, health inspection, staffing and quality management,” Marchetti said. “There will also be a tire drop off in August. We get a grant for it, so hold onto them until then and there will be more information in the next upcoming months.”
• Brigid Forlenza talked about wastewater in the county and other things in the county that will be fixed.
“Sewer cleaning will begin Wednesday and start at Eagle Lake and will finish up Northshore and Lakeview. This will be the last phase of it,” said Forlenza. “Two man holes in the county will also be fixed.”
• Treasurer Meryl Christensen reported on the police department.
“In April the department was up in staff, calls for service was up to 555 calls, with 185 reports,” Christensen said.
The next regular Ontwa Township meeting will be hosted at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Ontwa Township building.
