Fernwood, Elks to host Mother’s Day events

NILES — Those looking to take treat their mothers to brunch with a view will have a chance this Mother’s Day.
The annual Mother’s Day brunch will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Fernwood Botanical Garden, 13988 Range Line Road in Niles.
The menu will include dishes from Chef Tim Carrigan, including carved roast beef, chicken Florentine, an assortment of salads, vegetable sides and desserts. The cost is $20.95 for adults, $9.95 for children 6 to 12, and children 5 and under are free. A complimentary flowering plant will also be offered to each mom who visits as well as free admission to Fernwood gardens. Seating is limited and by reservation only. “Fernwood is a special place for many families, and events like our Mother’s Day Brunch allow Fernwood to be part of family traditions and celebrations,” said Meg Paulette, the marketing and events coordinator at Fernwood. “Reservations are required in advance, and depending on how quickly the tables fill up, we will be taking reservations until Friday, May 11.”
Fernwood Botanical Garden was established in 1964. It located in southwest Michigan on 105 acres of cultivated gardens and natural areas with woodlands, ravines, wetlands and river frontage on the St. Joseph River.
“Mother’s Day Brunch has been a tradition at Fernwood for more than 10 years,” Paulette said.
Those who want to continue their Mother’s Day celebrations can stick around at Fernwood gardens for the first Second Sunday concert of the season with the Licorice Stick Brigade, a clarinet quartet.
“The Licorice Stick Brigade concert is free to the public. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. and end about 5 p.m. We welcome our brunch guests to enjoy the gardens before that time. Guests may bring their own chair or use one of the lawn chairs provided by Fernwood,” Paulette said.
The Niles Elks Lodge at 1322 Canal St. in Niles will also be having an annual Mother’s Day brunch that will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday May 12.
The Elks menu will include a variety of breakfast items including pancakes, pancake sausage sticks, sausage patties, bacon, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, Denver style scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, fresh fruits, assorted juices, milk and coffee. The cost of this event is $9 per person. Children 8 and under is $4 and mothers eat free. Reservations are encouraged. To make a reservation call (269) 683-0133.
