Police investigate after unidentified body discovered in Lake Township

LAKE TOWNSHIP — The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a woman’s body was discovered on the shore of Lake Michigan early Sunday morning in Lake Township.
Police responded to the incident at approximately 12:40 a.m. A person walking on the shore of Lake Michigan spotted the deceased female that washed up on shore north of Warren Dunes State Park.
The body was identified as Eddisa Concepcion Herrera, who went missing after jumping in Lake Michigan at the North Ave. Beach, in Chicago, on Dec. 21.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday at Western Michigan University. Authorities ruled her death as an accidental drowning.
Several agencies assisted with this investigation, including the Lake Township police and fire departments, Bridgman Police Department, Office of the Medical Examiner, the DNR Park Rangers from the Warren Dunes State Park and the Chicago Police Department.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department said they wish to express their condolences to the family at this time.
