NILES — Host Brandywine knocked off Schoolcraft 9-3 in non-conference baseball Monday afternoon.

The Eagles were a final four team in Division 3 and are ranked No. 7 in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association’s preseason poll.

The Bobcats (1-0) erased a 3-0 Schoolcraft advantage with a four-run third inning.

Brandywine would follow that up with a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

“It was a nice start to the season, because Schoolcraft is a quality opponent,” said Brandywine coach David Sidenbender. “I liked the fact we faced some adversity and bounced back from it. You can’t read too much into a first game, but I couldn’t be happier with some of the things I saw. I thought we moved the ball well offensively after the first time through the lineup. Our defense was pretty solid, and we threw strikes.”

In the bottom of the fourth, Connor Janowiak singled to start the Bobcats’ rally.

Following a walk to Cam Barrier, Brock Prenkert doubled to drive in Janowiak.

Brandywine followed that up with a walk, which was sandwiched between a pair of outs. On the fly-out by Kevin Conrad, Barrier tagged up and scored to make it 3-2. The Bobcats tied the game on a groundout by Jacob Fox before Gabe Gouin singled to score the winning run.

Prenkert picked up the victory in relief of starter Ty Mickiewicz. Barrier earned the save.

The Bobcats finished with eight hits, including doubles by Gouin, Jakob Luczkowski and Prenkert, who had a pair of two-baggers.

Buchanan at Lawrence

The Buchanan Bucks swept Lawrence in the debut of new head coach Jim Brawley Monday.

The Bucks defeated the Tigers 16-1 and 8-2. The second game lasted just three innings due to darkness.

Jacob Hoover was the winning pitchers in the opener with relief help from Kuten Meijer. The pair combined on a no-hitter.

Buchanan pounded out 10 hits, including a double and a triple by Kade Hearington.

In the nightcap, Brad VanOverberghe picked up the victory.

Brandon Rogers, VanOverberghe and Austin Williams all doubled for the Bucks.
