Granger man arrested for possession of meth following routine traffic stop

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Police Department arrested a suspect for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and providing false identification to a police officer following a traffic stop in the city.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dowagiac police stopped a vehicle on E. Division Street near E. Railroad Street for having an improper registration on the vehicle. Officers located three people within the vehicle and were given identification by all of them. One of the officers knew the backseat passenger to be a different person than the identification that was given and were able to positively identify him. Upon checking it was learned that the backseat passenger had a valid warrant for his arrest.  The subject was arrested on the warrant.

K9 Tole was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle located approximately 22 grams of methamphetamine as well as other meth paraphernalia in the vehicle, according to officers on the scene.

Officers also located some possible stolen property within the vehicle.

The backseat passenger, a 34-year-old man, of Granger, was arrested on charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, providing false identification to a police officer, and the original warrant. He was lodged at the Cass County Jail on the above listed charges pending authorization of charges from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspects name is being withheld pending his arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court. 

The driver of the vehicle was cited for improper registration and released along with the other passenger.
