BERRIEN COUNTY — A woman was killed Friday following a fatal crash on US-12 near Niles, according to the Michigan State Police, Niles Post.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. Friday at US-12 and the US-31 bypass near Niles. Initial investigation shows that the victim, a woman, was driving a van east on US-12, when she hit a pickup truck that failed to yield at the stop sign when exiting the US-31 off ramp.

The driver of the van was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police. She was transported to the hospital following the crash, where she later died from surgical complications resulting from the accident.

Two male occupants of the pickup truck were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the Michigan State Police.
