CASS COUNTY — The Cass County Equalization Department will be hosting an assessing/board of review workshop at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 in the Kincheloe Room of the county building, 120 N. Broadway, Cassopolis.
The workshop will cover how property assessments are calculated in the State of Michigan and how these assessments are used to calculate property taxes. Professionals in the field will show residents how to work with their assessor to resolve any potential errors in their property assessment. They will also review the important information needed to challenge property assessments through the appeal process.
The appeal process begins with the March board of review. March board of reviews will take place at the individual township offices the week of March 11. The board of review times and dates are listed on the assessment change notice.
All property owners in Cass County received their 2019 assessment change notice Feb. 25. This is not a tax bill. This is a statement showing the value change in the property, officials said. Each notice will show the change in both the Assessed value and the taxable value. The notice also shows the estimated change in the 2019 taxes for the property.
The Cass County Equalization Director and the Berrien/Van Buren County equalization director along with various Cass County Township Assessors will be available during and after the workshop to answer any questions.
Those with questions regarding the workshop can contact Tami Stewart, the Cass County equalization director, at (269) 445-4440 or email tamis@cassco.org.
