Bobcats sweep River Valley

NILES — Visiting River Valley was swept by Brandywine in BCS Athletic Conference girls and boys basketball action Wednesday night.
The Bobcat girls team improved to 16-2 with a 60-36 victory, which was much closer than the final score indicates.
The Mustangs trailed Brandywine 6-5 after one quarter and 16-15 at halftime.
The Bobcats outscored River Valley 24-7 in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout.
“In my 10 years as the varsity coach at Brandywine, that is hands down the worst effort,” said Josh Hood. “We were outplayed, we were outcoached, and we were outclassed in every facet of the basketball game. I have to find a way to get these girls motivated.”
Junior Zakiyyah Abdullah led Brandywine with 17 points, while senior Nicole Sachman added 10.
The Brandywine boys team improved to 17-1 with a 77-54 victory over the Mustangs that was also close through the first half.
The Bobcats led 18-13 after one quarter and 37-27 at the intermission.
Brandywine outscored the Mustangs 40-27 in the second half.
Junior Jordan Abrams led the way with 17 points, while seniors Derrick Miller and Jaden Croom both added 14 points. Senior Bryce McLane finished with 12 points.
Niles basketball
The Vikings trailed throughout the contest and came up a point short against the Eddies.
Mac Gaideski led Edwardsburg with 15 points. Zach Strycker added 10.
Nate Goins had 11 points for Niles and Jordan Brown 10.
