Tough weekend for Chieftain teams

STEVENSVILLE — The Dowagiac basketball and wrestling teams found it tough going over the weekend.
The Chieftains were swept by host Three Rivers in boys and girls basketball, while the wrestling team won just one match at the Lakeshore Super Duals.
Dowagiac basketball
The Chieftains’ top two scorers were held to just one point by the Wildcats, who posted a 52-19 win over Dowagiac in Wolverine Conference South Division play Friday night.
Allie Conner went scoreless before fouling out, while Kellyn Daly was held to a single free throw.
Dowagiac, which trailed 27-9 at halftime and was shutout in the third quarter, was led in scoring by Hayden First’s eight points. Taylor Pye added six points.
In the boys basketball game, Three Rivers snapped the Chieftains’ three-game winning streak with a 71-69 South Division victory.
Shaquan Stanback poured in 26 points for the Chieftains, while Trae Brookins added 18 points.
Dowagiac wrestling
Dylan Elmore and Wyatt Bailey both went 4-0 at the Lakeshore Super Duals.
The Chieftains’ lone victory came in their opening match against St. Joseph, 45-31.
