What’s on tap for the Hunter Ice Festival?

NILES — Twenty-four tons of ice arrived Monday at the corner of Front and Main streets. Carvers will be getting to work to create more than 100 intricately carved sculptures that will be available through the downtown for the Hunter Ice Festival.
The festival will begin Friday. There will also be a variety of activities from restaurant specials and craft beer, as well as family activities to take part in. Below is a schedule of the week’s events.
• Tuesday, Jan. 15 – Thursday, Jan. 17

• Thursday, Jan. 17
Looking for some local cuisine? A Supper Club with Daysha and Jim at Paris Soda Co. will take place Thursday. Surf and turf is $30. Reservations are required and can be placed by contacting Jim at jimssmokincafe@gmail.com. There will also be a Hunter Ice Festival opening night tap takeover Thursday at the Brass Eye.
Friday, Jan. 18
• 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Smithsonian Museum Water Ways Exhibit at Niles District Library
• 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. — UltraCamp Welcome Center including the Psi Iota Xi Family Craft Activities 123 E. Main St.
• 5 to 8 p.m. — Hunter Ice Cream Booth will be located on the south side of Main Street between Front and Second streets.
• 5 to 7 p.m.— Sponsored sculptures placed throughout downtown
• 7:30 p.m. (approximately) — The Fire and Ice ceremony will take place in Riverfront Park behind Wonderland Cinema. There will be live action carving to music and then it is set on fire.
Saturday, Jan. 19
• 9 a.m. — Frigid 5K Registration at Inertia Cycle Works, 211 E. Main
• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Multi-Block sculptures carved live throughout downtown
• 10 a.m. Bloody Mary Bar at The Brass Eye
• 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Smithsonian Museum Water Ways Exhibit at Niles District Library
• 10 a.m. to 8pm – UltraCamp Welcome Center including the Psi Iota Xi Family Craft Activities Center, 123 E Main Street
• 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. — Hunter Ice Cream Booth will be located on the south side of Main between Front and Second streets.
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Niles District Library will be available for people to stop in and warm up with free cocoa and cookies. A Niles Community Schools Non-Traditional Art Show will also be available for viewing.
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Hunter Photo Booth at On Base Productions $2 a print 227 E Main St.
• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Niles History Center open. A local water ways exhibit is available.
• 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Shelf Life Bookstore is open. All proceeds support downtown Niles events, such as the Hunter Ice Festival.
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Pregnancy Care Center of Niles will host the BabyCakes Cupcake Contest/Fundraiser at Fifty5, located at the corner of 3rd and Cedar streets.
• Noon to 3 p.m. — Chemical Bank Warming Center, 407 E Main St.
• Noon to 4 p.m. — Children’s Sledding Hill, 400 Block of Main/South Side. This is contingent on if there is snow.
• 2 to 8 p.m. — Hunter Ice Festival Michigan Beer and Wine Tasting a F.O.P. 95, 531 State Street, Shuttle at City Hall Parking Lot provided by Niles Paul Hargreaves of Concord Cars
• 2 to 5 p.m. — Beer and Wine tasting at Front Street Pizza Pub, 520 Front St.
• 7:30 p.m. (approximately) – Speed Carving at the Amphitheater in Riverfront Park
• All Day – Interactive Ice Park on Main between Bridge and Front streets
Sunday, Jan. 20
• 10 a.m. — Bloody Mary Bar at The Brass Eye
• 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — UltraCamp Welcome Center including the Psi Iota Xi Family Craft Activities
• 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Hunter Ice Cream Booth, south side of Main between Front and Second streets
• 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Shelf Life Bookstore is open. All proceeds support downtown Niles events, such as the Hunter Ice Festival.
• Noon to 3 p.m. — Children’s Sledding Hill, 400 Block of Main/South Side. This is contingent upon if there is snow.
Noon to 3 p.m. — “Chili Crawl” – Chili Cook-off. Tickets at Welcome Center and Hunter Ice Cream Booth. Cost is $5.
• 1 to 3 p.m. – Chocolate Feast with the “Frozen” Sisters at The Grand LV. Ticket and reservations required. For more information call (269) 591-0334. Tickets cost $5.
• 3 p.m. — The Toona’s at Front Street Pizza
• 4 p.m. — “People’s Choice” Chili Cook-Off Awards, UltraCamp Welcome Center, 123 E Main St.
All Day – Interactive Ice Park on Main between Bridge & Front Street
