DALLAS — Clemson took a 23-3 lead into the locker room at halftime of the Cotton Bowl Classic against Notre Dame.
The first of two national semifinals was Tigers in the second quarter.
Both teams managed just a field goal in the first quarter, but Clemson’s offense exploded for 20 points in the second quarter.
The Tigers finished with 306 yards of total offense compared to just 141 for the Fighting Irish.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was 19-of-26 for 264 yards and three touchdowns. His three touchdown passes are a College Football Playoff record, while his 264 yards in the first half is a Cotton Bowl record.
Notre Dame’s lone points of the first half came on a 28-yard Justin Yoon field goal.
