Colleen Ward, 54, of Buchanan, has been a volunteer at Redbud Area Ministries for the past four years. Redbud serves as a food pantry and clothing ministry to those in need.

What do you do at Redbud Area Ministries?

I help people get food and weigh their food. I also put clothes away that people bring in. I sometimes bring in donations and put food away.

What motivated you to volunteer with the organization?

I wanted to serve others and be able to give back to society. It is also within walking distance of my house. I have thought about other places, but I really like this one.

What is your favorite part about the volunteer experience?

The people. I enjoy helping people and I enjoy the people I work with. They are really nice.

How do you feel Redbud is able to help the community?

They help people in times of need to get food. They can also help with [utility bills] and they will pray with people if they want someone to pray with.

Why would you encourage others to volunteer with Redbud?

It’s a good place that is giving back to the community and it is a way to help others and be involved in something larger than yourself.

What are you hoping to see Redbud accomplish in the New Year?

To continue helping people and be a blessing to the community and help people that need food.
