Marcellus hands Rangers first setback

MARCELLUS — The Cassopolis boys basketball team tasted defeat for the first time this season as host Marcellus upset the defending Southwest 10 Conference champions 58-51 Thursday night.
The Rangers (5-1) was without two of its top players in Tyrese Hunt-Thompson and Brayden Saxton.
The two teams were deadlocked at 16-16 after one quarter, while the Wildcats took a 27-26 halftime lead.
Marcellus continued to build on its lead by outscoring Cassopolis 14-8 in the third quarter to open up a 41-34 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Darrion Gatson led the Rangers with 24 points. Ahsan Hart added 13 points.
Gavin Etter scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Wildcats.
The Wildcats also picked up a win against Cassopolis in girls basketball, 43-35.
Angel Gary scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Rangers, who also got five points from Lizzy Ocampo.
