Dowagiac wins Vicksburg Invitational

VICKSBURG — The Dowagiac wrestling team rebounded from a season opening loss to Niles to go 5-0 and win the Vicksburg Invitational on Saturday.
The Chieftains defeated Martin-Climax Scotts 51-24, Decatur 57-13, Schoolcraft 53-20, Coloma 56-22 and Brandywine 48-30.
Going undefeated on the day for the Chieftains were Tyler Huston (112/119) and Dylan Elmore (119/125).
Posting 4-1 records were Jordon Simpson (103/112), Alex McIntosh (135/140), Deny White (152), Lamberto Paredes (160) and Brayan Paredes (171).
Mike Schlup was 3-1 on the day t 189.
The Bobcats went 2-3 on the day as they defeated Three Rivers and Vicksburg, but lost to Dowagiac, Portage Northern and Lake Odessa Lakewood.
Hunter Heath and Steven Kendall were both 5-0 on the day, while Searra Inman was 4-0.
Mathew Cox was 4-1 for the Bobcats.
Don Johnson Invitational
LANSING — The Niles wrestling team had little trouble winning the Don Johnson Invitational hosted by Lansing Eastern on Saturday.
The Vikings finished with 233 points to win the team championship, while Adrian was a distant second with 129 points and Lake Fenton third with 123.5.
Earning championships for Niles in the individual format tournament were Jamison Zimmerman (4-0) at 103, Harrison Haden (5-0) at 130, Javond Ball (4-0) at 135 and Cade Best (5-0) at 171.
Dawson Bruckner was the runner-up at 189 pounds with a 3-1 record.
Finishing third for the Vikings were Skylar Means (3-1) at 135, Kade Wagley (4-1) at 145, Cole Simpson (4-1) at 160 and Brian Soto (3-1) at 285.
