NILES — The Niles Salvation Army is advising families from Berrien and Cass counties that need assistance this year to apply for aid. This Friday marks the deadline for applications.

Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon; 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Niles Salvation Army, 424 N. 15th St. in Niles.

Leaders of the charity organization said they are looking to receive as many applications as possible, and so far, have not received a large response.

Families who apply can receive assistance with food and toys or just food for families without children. Those who apply are asked to bring a current ID card for the head of the household, social security, medical cards or birth certificates for every person in the residence and proof of monthly income. Some other beneficial paper work that could help program organizers to understand the family’s situation include, pay stubs, child support and expenses, such as current bills.
