DOWAGIAC — Recently, the staff from Dowagiac Union Schools hosted a resource night at Sister Lakes Elementary. The library was on hand to sign families up for library cards. The fire department showed students the gear they wear, passed out smoke alarms and had a truck in back of the school on display. The importance of reading was also discussed, and the Read by Third Grade law was presented. Food was catered by a nearby grocery store. Also visiting the school was the health department and Michigan State University Extension to promote healthy eating. Dowagiac schools hosts the event every year for the migrant families in the area.
