Dale James Hein, 85, passed away at 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, in Southfield Village, South Bend.
Dale was born on Aug. 30, 1933, in Michigan City. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; Rudy and Faye (Gonder) Hein; daughter Julie Hein; and brother, Earl Hein.
On May 29, 1958, in Galien, Michigan, Dale married Shirley L. (Nelson), and she passed away on June 30, 2018.
Dale is survived by children, Gwendolyn (Kirk) Hocker, and Jeffrey (Catrina) Hein; grandchildren, David (Katie) Hocker, Jodi (Jon) Byrnes, Kelly (David) Byrnes, Taylor Hein, Evan Hein, Julie Hein; great-grandchildren, Logan, Wyatt, Austin, Travis, Sadie, Levi, Ryan, Adeline and Caroline; and brothers, Ronald Hein, and Terry (Diane) Hein.
After graduating from Galien High School in 1952, Dale honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Forces. He was a machine repairman and worked for the Railroad, Clarks and American Axle. Dale and his wife, Shirley were members of Community Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, in Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami Rd, South Bend, where family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. The service will conclude with Full Military Honors by the American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan. Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles, is assisting the family with arrangements.
