Rangers win at Decatur

CASSOPOLIS — It has been a busy and successful week for the Cassopolis volleyball team.

The Rangers swept Bloomingdale and Eau Claire in Southwest 10 Conference play and captured the Decatur Invitational championship on Saturday.

Cassopolis is now 12-1-1 on the year.

The Rangers swept Bloomingdale 25-11, 25-16 and 25-6 last week, while it knocked off Eau Claire 25-14, 25-9 and 25-15 Tuesday night.

At Decatur, Cassopolis split with Comstock and defeated Bloomingdale in pool play before knocking off Comstock in the semifinals.

The Rangers defeated Lawton 25-14, 21-25 and 15-8 to win the championship.

“I am so proud of my girls for their effort today,” said Cassopolis coach Demi Schrader about the Decatur win. “They played hard and executed. We had great moments throughout the day, but we still have many areas to improve and work on. We were a lot more aggressive today and mixed up our shots well. We just need to work on being consistent and being smart on our hitting decisions in crucial moments.”

Maile Barber had 44 kills, 37 digs and four blocks at the Decatur Tournament, while Sophie Fiala finished with 36 kills and 17 blocks.

Madison Suseland finished with 18 kills. Gabby Rowan had 85 assists, five kills, 31 digs and a block.

Lynnzee Armstrong finished with five aces, four kills and 57 digs.

Against Bloomingdale, Fiala and Barber combined for 17 kills and nine blocks.

Rowan had 20 assists.

Against the Beavers, Suseland had a team-high seven kills, while Barber and Fiala each had six kills. Fiala also had five blocks.

Armstrong and Barber led the team in digs with nine. Rowan finished the match with 25 assists and seven digs.
