DOWAGIAC — Disability Network Southwest Michigan is conducting free “Disability and Employment” workshops throughout southwest Michigan during the month of October. These workshops are designed to teach people with disabilities how, when, and why to talk about their disability or medical condition with an employer, according to organizers.

The workshop covers what their rights are under the Americans with Disabilities Act, how to request an accommodation at work, and additional disability resources in the community.

“Many people with disabilities or medical conditions agonize over how and when to talk about their disability when they are looking for work.  This workshop will give people practical tools and strategies to make that decision,” said Lewis Whalen, program director with Disability Network.

This workshop will be hosted in Dowagiac from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Michigan Works, 601-D Front St. To register for the workshop contact Miranda at grunwellm@dnswm.org or (269) 345-1516 x120. Organizers are asking that registrants let them know when registering if they require an accommodation to participate.

For more information about the workshop or to find other dates and locations for the workshop, go to dnswm.org.

This will be a fragrance-free environment. Organizers ask that participants do not wear perfume, cologne or other scented products to this event.
