Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Jenna Davis

Jenna Davis is a junior on the Dowagiac volleyball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
JD: Learning to accept failure and excel rather than dwell on my mistakes.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
JD: Losing in the first round of Districts in volleyball last year.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
JD: My dad because he is supportive and hard-working.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
JD: Typically right before matches or during warmup.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
JD: Getting thrown on the soccer field during the first varsity game and having no idea what to do.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
JD: Running and training in the weight room
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
JD: Cross Country
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
JD: They teach discipline and character.
How would you give away $50,000?
JD: I would give half to a well-deserving woman in need of college funds and the other half to less fortunate children during the holidays.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
JD: Our varsity volleyball team.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
JD: I would have a lot more time to study
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
JD: Be encouraging and keep a positive attitude all of the time despite the circumstances.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
JD: I’d get rid of the rule that forces you to have to wait for the ball to be contacted in a serve to be able switch positions in the front row.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
JD: A coach at our tournament mentioned he was nervous because he thought I was Annie Ennesser somehow back in high school.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
JD: I challenged myself to take dual enrolled classes at SMC, and yes, I am glad I am doing it.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
JD: My brother kicked a 50-yard field goal in practice.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
JD: Playing Volleyball; I am passionate and good at it which makes it super fun.
