NILES — The Niles History Center will host the second annual, A Black Tie Affair from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. The event will take place on the lawn of the Historic Chapin Mansion. Guests are invited to bring tables, chairs, blankets, food and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy while listening to popular musical guest, The Ember Jar.
Building on the success of last year’s event, this year’s Black Tie Affair will once again offer a chance for the community to gather at the Chapin Mansion.
“This event is designed as a riff on community dinners like the ‘Soiree en Blanc,’ where guests all dress in the same color. A typical museum gala would call for black tie attire but our event is more casual,” said History Center Director Christina Arseneau.
Last year, attendees had fun with their own interpretation of black tie, dressing in everything from black tuxedos and ball gowns to black jeans and shorts.
Families are welcome at the event. The Ember Jar plays a variety of popular indie, soul and rock music which can be ideal for dancing or just listening and enjoying the grounds of Niles’ treasured community landmark. Those who may not want to pack a picnic are welcome to visit one of Niles’ downtown restaurants for a take-out dinner. Attendees are also encouraged to decorate their tables for the evening. Set-up time will begin at 4 p.m. The Chapin Mansion will be open during the band’s intermission.
Proceeds from “A Black Tie Affair” will fund new exhibits and restoration work at the Chapin Mansion, including repairs to the front porch and the addition of an ADA-accessible ramp. The event will take place rain or shine. Admission is just $10 in advance or $15 at the event. All ages are welcome and ages 12 and under will be admitted free. For tickets, visit the Fort St. Joseph Museum at 508 E. Main Street or call (269) 845-4054.
