DOWAGIAC — It is the goal of every DAR Chapter to remember its deceased members. With written permission from the national office, and the careful permission from each cemetery’s sexton, chapters choose which year, month, and day would be appropriate for honoring these women with the installation of bronze markers placed at their headstones.

This year, the Captain Samuel Felt Chapter gathered on June 11 at the Cass District Library for a brief lunch and a short meeting and then proceeded to Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac.

Here Chaplain Karie Seem conducted a service first at the headstone of her mother, Ronni Seem, and then at the stone of Margaret Hunter. Seem had been the treasurer of the chapter for many years and Hunter, an artist, had provided the chapter with numerous window displays appropriate to celebrations like Constitution Week, Christmas and Independence Day.

Twelve members, relatives and guests attended the ceremonies.
