CASSOPOLIS — Incumbent D7 Cass Commissioner Clark Cobb will be moving on to the general election.

Cobb, 64, of Dowagiac, beat out Minnie Warren, 72, of Dowagiac, for the Democratic seat for D7 commissioner during Tuesday’s primary election with a vote of 231 to 210. In November’s general election, Cobb will face off against Republican candidate Leon “Andy” Anderson, 73, of Dowagiac. Anderson ran unopposed for the Republican seat.

“I’m elated that I won,” Cobb said. “I’m glad that I’m still going to be a part of that team. We have a lot of things on our plates … but I will have to wait to see what happens in November.”

Cobb is the current D7 commissioner for Cass County. He has spent 10 years as commissioner, and spent six years on the Dowagiac Housing Commission. His experience is something he believes gives him an advantage as a commissioner and as a candidate.

“The more you do something, the better you get at it, and I have a lot of experience,” he said. “I think I have become a lot better. I always want to listen to all sides of the story, because we deal with a lot of stuff as commissioners. So, I think [my experience has given me] a lot of judgment to weigh the facts and measure which way will be the best for the people of Cass County.”

Though he won a primary seat, Cobb said the fight is not over, and he plans to continue campaigning until the November election in order to spread his message and make voters aware of the issues he plans to work on as commissioner. One of the things he plans to work on is Cass County’s historic courthouse in Cassopolis.

“My method of campaigning is going door to door and knocking and talking with people. I think that is the best way,” Cobb said. “I think people are appreciative when you talk to them and let them know what is going on in the county. … I’m ready to get that information out there. That’s what I’m going to continue to do. That’s my plan for November.”
