Several community organizations throughout the Niles-Buchanan area are gearing up for events.
Democratic Party grand opening
The Berrien County Democratic Party will host a grand opening of the Benton Harbor campaign office. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at 129 E. Main St. in Benton Harbor. The community is welcome to join candidates, party officials and members to kick off the 2018 election. There will be food, candidate literature and signs. Summer Thrill on the Hill
The city of Buchanan will once again host the three-day Summer Thrill on the Hill. The event, which transforms Buchanan’s hilly Front Street into a giant slip and silde, will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2; noon to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. There will also be live music and an Adult Luau Party. Cost: $5 for a wrist band, three-day fun pass is $10.
National Night Out
The Buchanan Police Department will host the 35th National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the McCoy Creek Park Recreational Area, behind Buchanan High School. There will be multiple family and youth friendly activities. The activity aims to celebrate police and community partnerships.
Niles Art Association
The Niles Art Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Niles District Library Community Room, 620 E. Main St., Niles. The program will be “Design and Paint a Bisque Flat Ornament” presented by Elizabeth Dreitzler, NAA member and workshop coordinator. Elizabeth is a longtime crafter who works in clay, stained glass and precious metal clay.

Rummage and Bake Sale
St. Anthony Church will host a Rummage and Bake Sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at 509 W. Fourth St. in Buchanan. There will be free coffee and iced tea. Water, soda, chips will be available.
