NILES — It is not every day that someone knocks on a resident’s door to ask if they can mow their lawn or vacuum their living room, but volunteers from Relevant Church did just that this past weekend for their third annual Serve the City project.
Dozens of volunteers participated in the service project and spent their Saturday helping others. The event seeks to conquer multiple projects in one day.
Some spent their time helping out at local organizations, such as the Pregnancy Care Center and the YMCA, while others helped to serve to-go breakfasts at the Niles Fire Station Complex. There, first responders were able to get a fresh hot breakfast that included a breakfast sandwich, coffee, Danish and fruit.
Still other volunteers participated in an adopt-the-block project and knocked on doors between Third and Fifth streets, asking residents if they need assistance with anything around the house.
After volunteers completed their projects, they hosted a Summer Bash at Clevenger Park. Those who visited the park could find free hot dogs, chips and water, as well as face painting and water balloons.
