DOWAGIAC — One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident in Dowagiac Sunday.
Dowagiac Director of Public Safety Steven Grinnewald reported that officers of the Dowagiac Police Department investigated a single-vehicle traffic accident with injuries around 11:10 p.m. Sunday.
Initial investigation shows that a motorcycle operated by a 22-year-old Dowagiac area resident was traveling east on Marcellus Highway near Nubour road. Just east of that location, the operator of the motorcycle failed to properly negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway, according to police. The motorcycle struck a tree and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle.
The rider was conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported to Borgess Hospital Kalamazoo with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
At this time, it does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the crash, officers said.
Dowagiac police officers were assisted at the scene by Dowagiac Fire, Pride Care EMS, and Pokagon Tribal Police.
