The Niles District Library is building a community of lifelong learners that want to make Niles their lifelong home. Patrons do not need a library card to participate in any of our programs and all of our programs are free. July 2-July 24: Eleanor and Mowitt Drew Gallery artist Sharron Ott will be displaying her beautiful artwork in an exhibit titled “Celebrating their Beauty,” brings awareness of endangered species and their habitats.

Monday, July 9

• 9 to 10 a.m. — Fitness at the Library- Yoga

Bring your mat and join Lacey Peters for a session of gentle yoga and relaxation. Everyone welcome, regardless of fitness or experience level.

• Noon to 1 p.m. — Teen Lunchtime Hangout

Hang out, play some video games, and have a free lunch.

• 12 to 1:30 p.m. — Summer Lunch Program

Kids ages infant to 18 and disabled individuals up to age 26 eat for free. Adults ages 19+ pay for their lunches. Looking for a nutritious meal this summer? Come on down to the library. Kids and teens will receive a free sack lunch to eat in the building. Stay for our programs. Lunches begin Monday, June 18 and end Friday, August 17.

• 1 to 2 p.m. — Balloon Twisting with Mr. Jim

Mr. Jim will be here to help you and your child with the art of Balloon Twisting.

• 4 to 5 p.m. — Friends of NDL Meeting

Mr. Jim will be here to help you and your child with the art of Balloon Twisting.

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Messy Monday

Sensory and messy fun this summer. We will have crafts, sensory experiences, and experiments to exercise your brain. This fun may be messy, so dress accordingly. For kids ages 2-12. Meet us outside by the picnic table. In the case of inclement weather, event will be canceled.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Tween Game Night

Calling all tweens. Join us for a fun game night just for kids ages 9-12. We will have the Xbox and board games out, as well as art and crafts supplies. We can all learn and play together. Snacks provided.

• 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Genealogy Book Club

Love reading and family history? You can enjoy both in our Genealogy Book Club. We will not be reading genealogy “how-to” books, but rather, novels, memoirs, and personal narratives which weave a thread of family history research into each story. It’s not too late to pick up the July book from the Niles District Library, “Isle of Canes”.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — Happy Destiny Group

The purpose of A.A. group meetings is for A.A. members to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and to help others recover from alcoholism. Open meetings are available to anyone interest in the program or recovery.

Tuesday, July 10

• 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., or 5 p.m. — Triple P: Parenting Class

Primary Care Triple P: This class is for parents who wish to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child’s development and potential.

• 10:30 a.m. — Passport Pals

Join us for a special storytime tour of the world. Each week, we will have books, songs, a craft, and other super surprises relating to the special country of the month…and don’t forget to stamp your passport.

• 12 to 1 p.m. — Teen Lunchtime Hangout

Hang out, play some video games, and have a free lunch.

Come on down to the library on a warm summer day for a cool sing along. This week, we are showing “Frozen.” Feel free to sing along, or just to watch and enjoy a delicious bag of popcorn.

• 1 to 3:30 p.m. —League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy.

• 5 to 8 p.m. — SkillShare Open Shop

SkillShare is both an action and a place. We’ve created a workshop space downstairs for community members to share skills like patching drywall, fixing a leaky faucet, repairing small appliances, sewing, crafts, and hobbies. We also hope it will be a fun place to hang out during (twice) weekly open shop times. Anyone can drop in during open shop times and use the workshop and tools. This is also when Things can be checked out or returned.

• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and Chapters

This is a fun read aloud storytime. Every Tuesday, Ms. Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while you eat chips and follow along. This is fun for all ages.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.- Pajama Storytime

A fun evening of three stories, music, and movement, and a craft. Please feel free to wear your jammies.

• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Fiction for Foodies

Fiction for Foodies, the tastiest book club you’ll ever join, meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. And the best part…it’s a potluck. Read, cook, eat, discuss.

Wednesday, July 11

• Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m.; Squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m.; Squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m.; Storytime (kids ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m..

Children ages 8-12 who love to cook? Come on down and learn how to make simple and delicious recipes. Learn fun food facts as well. Different theme each week, and all you have to bring is your appetite.

• 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. — Niles Public Arts Commission

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Fitness at the Library-Yoga

Thursday, July 12

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Connection

As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.

• 10:30 & 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.

• Noon to 1 p.m. — Teen Art

No crafty talents required for these fun arts and crafts projects. Join us for a free lunch, and fun, possibly messy, arts and crafts projects.

• Noon to 1:30 p.m. — Summer Lunch Program

Volunteers are available weekly to teach you how to play Mahjong.

• 6-7:30 p.m. — Teen Time

Come and hang out. We have games, books, and a great place to study here in the new Teen Department. Snacks will be provided.

Friday, July 13

• 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. — TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with exceptional group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, TOPS has helped millions of people live healthier lives. New members are welcome.

• 10:30 to 11 a.m.-Picture Book Club

The perfect book club for your little one. This book club features a read aloud, music and movement activity, and a craft all related to the book. Stop by the Youth Services Desk for the latest copy of the book. Children ages 0-7. This week we’re reading “The Sandwich Swap” by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

• Noon to 1 p.m. —Teen Sign Language Club

This is a club for teens to learn sign language. Each week we will have a different theme, story, and activity to learn this great language.

• Noon to 1:30 p.m. — Summer Lunch Program

• 1 to 3 p.m.- Twisted Stitches

Bring your yarn or sewing project and enjoy a hot beverage while you chat and work. Rookies are welcome. David is here to provide help and instructions, and we have a few loaner tools to get you started if you need them.

• 4:30-5:30 p.m. — Tween Book Club

Join us for a great book discussion group for children ages 8-12.

Saturday, July 14

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — SkillShare: Open Shop

This musical program is aimed for toddlers to help strengthen the little brain and body muscles. We will use music to reinforce hand eye coordination, cross brain exercises, and tactile and sensory movements. This program is for ages 0-5.

• 1 to 2 p.m. — Jr. Garden Club

Each month, Ms. Ann will present a lesson on gardening and nature. There will also be a snack, and a craft connected with the topic. This group is for ages 3-12.
