SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP — An Illinois woman was injured during a water emergency on Dewey Lake Saturday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene at 4:17 p.m. on Dewey Lake in Silver Creek Township. Initial investigation shows that a 63-year-old woman from Palos Heights, Illinois was floating on a tube near the sand bar, when her family pet jumped in the lake and began to struggle. She then went to assist her pet and began to struggle to stay afloat. Her husband entered the water, attempting to help her, but was not able to get her to the boat. Multiple citizens on the lake came to assist the husband.
The woman was taken to shore and transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for non-life-threatening injuries. No personal floatation devices were used.
Deputies were assisted by Cass County Road Patrol, Cass County Marine Division, Pride Care Ambulance and Sister Lakes Fire Department.
