Arrest made in shooting investigation
VANDALIA — One suspect was arrested after another fled when police were dispatched to the scene of a Vandalia home where shots were fired Friday afternoon, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department reports.
Police were called to the home at 2:40 p.m. Friday, where they learned that an argument escalated until two suspects fired shots at each other. No one was injured, but the gunshots led to property damage.
One suspect was arrested. The other suspect fled the scene and is being sought by police, but is not considered a danger to the general public. Names are being withheld pending arraignment.
Sheriff Richard Behnke asks that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at (269) 445-1560. The incident remains under investigation.
Granger man crashes boat after medical episode
MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP — A medical episode led to a boat crash Saturday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Police were dispatched to Big Fish Lake in Marcellus Township at 8:50 a.m. Saturday after a boat driven by Michael Mondovich, 55, of Granger, crashed into a pier and two boats.
After further investigation, police learned Mondovich had suffered a severe medical condition and lost consciousness, causing him to lose control of the boat.
Witnesses and first responders performed CPR on Mondvich at the scene before he was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital via PrideCare Ambulance.
Marcellus Ambulance and Marcellus Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Alcohol a factor in Cass County collision
MASON TOWNSHIP — Police responded to a crash with minor injuries at 9:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of George Smith Drive and Channel Parkway in Mason Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Sarah Miller, 26, of Elkhart, was driving south on George Smith Drive when she left the roadway and struck multiple vehicles. She was transported by Porter Township Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for minor injuries.
Police say alcohol was a factor, and seatbelts were worn during the crash.
Assisting agencies were Porter Township Fire and Ambulance and the Edwardsburg Police Department.
Four injured when feed truck, car crash
NEWBERG TOWNSHIP — Four were treated for injuries at a Kalamazoo hospital after a car and feed truck crashed in Newberg Township Friday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash at M-40 and Dutch Settlement at 11:40 a.m. Friday after a feed truck driven by Stanley Myers, 69, of Constantine collided with a car, driven by Cheryl Dimmick, 61, of Portage. Dimmick was traveling west on Dutch Settlement. Myers was driving north on M-40.
Dimmick had three passengers: Kelly Walters, 43, Amy Boerman, 41 and Susan Boerman, 68. All four occupants of the vehicle were transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment. Myers was treated and released at the scene.
Seatbelts were used. The crash remains under investigation.
