Cassopolis woman hospitalized after SUV rollover crash

MASON TOWNSHIP — A 49-year-old woman was injured Monday afternoon when she lost control of her SUV on Mason Street east of Gordon Road in Mason Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Police responded to the crash at about 1:30 p.m.

According to police, Stacey Garritano, of Cassopolis was traveling eastbound on Mason Street when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.

The vehicle then overturned and came to rest on its side in the roadway. Garritano was extricated from the vehicle by SEPSA Fire Department and transported to St. Joseph Memorial Hospital via MedFlight. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to police. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time.

Assisting on scene were SEPSA Ambulance, SEPSA Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police. The crash remains under investigation.

Elkhart man injured after car versus deer crash

MASON TOWNSHIP — A 55-year-old Elkhart man was hospitalized after he swerved to miss a deer in the roadway and crashed the car.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash at 7:51 a.m. on Grange Street west of Calvin Center Road in Mason Township.

Scott Lee Stoneburner, the driver of the vehicle, was traveling eastbound on Grange Street when a deer entered the roadway. Stoneburner swerved to avoid hitting the deer, running the vehicle off the roadway. The vehicle then crashed into a tree.

Porter Ambulance took Stoneburner to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. A seat belt was worn and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Porter Township Fire Department.

ST. Paul Lutheran church to host Splash Canyon VBS

CASSOPOLIS — St. Paul Lutheran church is hosting Splash Canyon VBS the week of June 18 through June 22, from 9 a.m. till Noon at 305 W. State St .Cassopolis. Children ages 3 to 12 are invited to attend.

They’ll look into the Bible and explore five Bible accounts where God keeps His promises to be with humanity and gives them life and hope through Jesus.
