DOWAGIAC — After months of waiting and preparation, one local business is ready to celebrate its Dowagiac store.

Wright Farms Market, 111 W. Railroad St., Dowagiac, will host a grand opening celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16. The event will feature a live Y Country Radio (97.5 FM) radio broadcast from 10 a.m. until noon. That live broadcast will include ticket giveaways for the Y-Country Summer Jam in August. Additionally, the grand opening will offer guests a chance to register to win a Kenmore grill, grilling packages and more. The market will also be offering samples of its pulled pork, bratwurst and of a number of Southwest Brand Pepper Sauces.

“We are hoping it will be a lot of fun and draw a lot of people here,” said Steve Wright, owner of Wright Farms Market, about the grand opening festivities.

Wright Farms Market sells locally grown and farmed meats, specialty food items and produce. The store is owned by Wright, who also owns Wright Farms in Cassopolis, which is known for producing local, steroid- and hormone-free meat. Much of the meat stocked in the market is supplied by Wright Farms.

The store sells a variety of meats including beef, chicken, pork and lamb. The store also sells farm fresh eggs and produce, as well as a variety of local and organic products.

“We have local things, and we have unique things that you can’t really find anywhere else,”

Wright said of his store. “It’s pretty unique to this area.”

With seven generations of farmers behind him, Wright said that farming is part of who he is and that he takes pride in the products he provides to the public.

In March, he opened his storefront in Dowagiac to keep up with customer demand. At the time, Wright was still getting things in place and did not feel prepared to host a grand opening. Now, he said he feels ready to host a wide grand opening.

“We are close enough to where we want to be. … Business has been really good,” Wright said. “We have most of the things we want, but we still want to get more seafood here. We are hoping to get that set up this summer.”

Wright said he is excited for the grand opening and that he hopes the public will turn out for the event.

“We want to let people know that we are here,” he said. “We want to host something nice for our existing customers and hopefully new customers.”
