NILES — Just minutes after 2 p.m. Tuesday, dozens of Merritt Elementary School students lined the hallways and held up homemade signs congratulating Brandywine High School seniors on their upcoming graduation.

Students positioned their signs just as the senior Bobcats poured through the doors for the Brandywine Senior Walk. The seniors wore their gold and maroon graduation gowns and hats. The Brandywine band also played as they marched through the halls.

Seniors toured both Merritt Elementary and Brandywine Elementary schools for the senior walk, which has existed for a few years, according to Matt Severin, the Merritt Elementary School principal.

“It’s a really cool tradition for the seniors to come through and reminisce and see the building where it all started,” Severin said. “For our little ones, they get to look up to the graduates and think ‘boy, I get to be there one day.’”

Additionally, he said it was a good way to celebrate the Brandywine community.

“That’s what we are all about, from our littlest ones to our senior walking across the stage,” Severin said.

Brandywine High School will host their graduation commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday.
