Cass County roundup: Dowagiac man injured in tractor accident

WAYNE TOWNSHIP — A Dowagiac resident was hospitalized after a tractor accident in Wayne Township Sunday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Police were called to the scene of the accident on Roth Road near Dewey Lake in Wayne Township after Leonard Eugene Philips, 59, fell from a tractor he was operating on his property. Phillips was run over by one of the wheels of the tractor and sustained serious injuries.
Phillips was transported by PrideCare Ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial in Dowagiac for injuries sustained in the accident.
The Wayne Township Fire Department also assisted with the accident.
Edwardsburg man hospitalized following moped crash
PORTER TOWNSHIP — Police believe alcohol was a factor in a personal injury crash involving a moped on Walnut Road Friday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
At approximately 10:16 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to Walnut Road just south of Brownsville Road in Porter Township after 58-year-old Jeffrey Russell, of Edwardsburg, lost control of his moped and went off the roadway.
Russell cleared himself through emergency services at the scene of the crash, but later was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. From there, he was transferred to Borgess Medical Center Kalamazoo, where he was treated for his injuries.
Russell was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Newberg Ambulance Service and Newberg Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
