Dowagiac sweeps past Paw Paw

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac baseball team had no trouble sweeping visiting Paw Paw in a Wolverine Conference doubleheader at Rotary Park Thursday.
The Chieftains defeated Paw Paw 10-2 in the opening game and then completed the sweep with a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.
Elijah Williams scattered eight hits to earn the victory for the Chieftains in the opening game.
Dowagiac finished with seven hits, including a double by Zech Huston, who also drove in a pair of runs.
Hunter Williamson and Hunter Brackensick both finished with two hits and two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Brackensick tossed a three-hitter with a pair of strikeouts.
The Chieftains had 11 hits in the contest, including Duan Simpson’s 3-for-3 performance with a double.
Kade Schreiber had a single, a double and an RBI for Dowagiac, which also got a pair of RBIs from Williams.
Brenden Dudley doubled and drove in a run for Dowagiac, which travels to Benton Harbor for a non-conference game Tuesday.
Edwardsburg baseball
Edwardsburg swept a pair of Wolverine Conference games from visiting Allegan on Friday before splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Lakeshore on Saturday.
The Eddies blew out the Tigers 13-3 in the opening game and scored a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.
Landen Cebra went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs in the opening game.
Caden Goggins had a pair of hits, while Austin Hurt, Jarrett Tighe, Jonah Sibley and Hunter Bedell all doubled.
Chris Griffin picked up the victory as he worked the first four innings, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
The nightcap was called after three innings.
Bedell allowed one earned run on one hit with six strikeouts.
He also singled, as did Sibley.
Niles baseball
The Vikings swept a SMAC non-divisional baseball doubleheader from visiting Battle Creek Lakeview Thursday.
Niles won the opening game 4-3 in nine innings before picking up a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
In the bottom of the ninth, Johnny Bybee led off the inning by reaching base on an error by the Lakeview shortstop.
Zayne Neumann followed with a single to left field to score Bybee with the winning run.
Cade Vota picked up the victory in relief as he pitched two innings, allowing two hits with a strikeout.
Chad Barton and Neumann both finished with two hits for the Vikings, who squared their record at 12-12 with the sweep.
Jared Hainey also had two hits for Niles. Hainey, Barton and Neumann all drove in runs.
Brayden Lake went the distance to earn the win in the second game.
Lake allowed one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Barton finished with two hits, while Neumann drove in a pair of runs.
Brandywine baseball
The Brandywine baseball team dropped a pair of games at the Kalamazoo Hackett tournament Saturday.
The Bobcats lost to host Hackett 8-7 before being defeated by Lakewood 12-2.
Brandywine outhit the Fighting Irish 14-12, but gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to suffer the loss.
Steven Justus had three hits and an RBI for the Bobcats, who also got two hits from Joey Coveyeou, Derek Lloyd and Kevin Conrad.
Corbin Eckenberger suffered the loss in relief of Brenden Alvord.
Against Lakewood, Jakob Luczkowski and Connor Janowiak both finished with two hits.
Ty Mickiewicz drove in a run.
Coveyeou suffered the loss as he allowed seven runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Buchanan baseball
Buchanan split a pair of games with Lake Michigan Catholic and New Buffalo Saturday.
The Bucks were blanked by the Lakers 5-0, but defeated the Bison 13-3.
In the victory over New Buffalo, Dedrick Adkerson and Cam Lorance both doubled for the Bucks, who finished with 10 hits.
Josh Reed tossed a four-hitter to pick up the victory for Buchanan, who hosts Edwardsburg Tuesday.
