Roundup: Brandywine softball sweeps Marcellus

NILES — The Brandywine softball team improved to 7-5 with a non-conference sweep of Marcellus Saturday.

The Bobcats defeated the Wildcats 11-4 and 13-9.

In the first game, Delani Nelson scattered seven hits to pick up the victory.

The Bobcats banged out 16 hits, including a double and a triple by Halie Ebersol and doubles by Nelson and Kennedy Byrd.

Nelson was also the winning pitcher in the second game and she scattered eight hits.

Brandywine finished with 15 hits, including three doubles by Nelson, two doubles by Nicole Sachman and a double by Byrd.

Niles baseball

MISHAWAKA — Visiting Niles dropped an 18-3 decision to Penn in non-conference baseball action Monday.

The loss was the sixth straight for the Vikings, who drop to 6-9 on the season.

Penn scored 12 runs in the opening inning and never looked back.

Niles used five pitchers in the contest, including starter Chad Barton, who suffered the loss.

Kendall Whitelow had a pair of hits for the Vikings, as did Chandler Dodd, who doubled, singled and drove in a run.

Drew Gourley and Cade Vota both singled and picked up RBIs.

Niles played host to Portage Central in a SMAC West Division doubleheader at Notre Dame Tuesday night.

The Vikings host Buchanan in a single game at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Tennis

DOWAGIAC — The Brandywine tennis team blanked host Dowagiac 8-0 to cap an undefeated regular season Monday.

The Bobcats (13-0) sent seniors Elizabeth Hartz, Hanna Martin, Olivia Whitney and Lauren Srmek out with wins in their final regular season match.

Brandywine completely dominated the Chieftains, losing just six games in the entire match.
