Chieftains, Niles lose league games

DOWAGIAC — Visiting Allegan scored five first-half goals en route to an 8-0 Wolverine Conference win over Dowagiac Wednesday afternoon.
BrookAnn Hitchcock scored three goals for the Tigers, who also got two goals from Allison Radke.
Also scoring goals for Allegan were Myah TerAvest, Taylor Jackson and Kaitlyn Fulton.
“I thought the girls stayed together as a team and they’re taking strides on learning to play against tough competition at a fast pace,” Dowagiac coach Chad Davis said. “These girls are growing up right in front of our eyes. I’m very proud of their resiliency.”
The shutout was the 10th of the season for Allegan.
Dowagiac was also shut out by Three Rivers Monday, 6-0.
The Wildcats opened up a 4-0 halftime lead on a pair of goals by Kaitlin Ritchie, as well as goals by Abigail Stephens and Izzy Taylor.
In the second half, Kelsey Barett and Torri Towles scored goals for Three Rivers.
Dowagiac freshman goalkeepear Kayla Contreras stopped 16 shots.
“The girls played extremely hard tonight,” Davis said. “We came across a very good three Rivers team. But considering all the shots on goal the girls played extremely tough defense and stayed together as a team. I wasn’t happy with the outcome, but I was happy with the effort.”

STEVENSVILLE — The visiting Vikings were shut out by Lakeshore 5-0 in a SMAC West Division match Wednesday.
Scoring three goals for the Lancers was Natalie Stampfly.
Also scoring for Lakeshore were Cassie Pallett and Lexy Gustafson.
Kyra Van Antwerp recorded the shutout in goal for Lakeshore.
Niles’ Avyion James stopped four of the nine shots she faced.
