Boys track top Allegan; golf team in third in Wolverine standings

ALLEGAN — The Dowagiac boys track team split with host Allegan and Sturgis in Wolverine Conference track April 24.
The Chieftains defeated the host Tigers 69-68, but lost to the Trojans 87-49.
The Dowagiac girls track team lost to Allegan 120-15 and to Sturgis 96-37.
Picking up first-place finishes for the Chieftain boys team were Jacob Stokes in the 400-meters (54.10), Shawn Little in the 1,600-meters (4:48.76) and the 3,200-meters (10:08.89) and the 800-meter relay team of Louis Barnes, Stokes, Aldreon Henderson and Tim Howard (1:39.51).
The top girls finisher was Haydyn First, who was second in the 100-meters (13.79) and third in the 200-meters (28.92).

Edwardsburg continues to lead the Wolverine Conference golf standings as the Eddies have amassed 57 points through the first six league jamborees.
Plainwell is currently second with 54 points, while Dowagiac is third with 42 points and Three Rivers fourth with 40.
Rounding out the order are Paw Paw (38), Vicksburg (28), Allegan (25), South Haven (22), Sturgis (18) and Otsego 6.
Jacob Farris of Plainwell currently leads the individual conference standings with a stroke average of 40.667.
Edwardsburg’s Satchel Pierce is second at 40.833, while Dowagiac’s Nick Saltzman is third at 42.667.
As a team, the Eddies are averaging 172.17 in scoring, while Plainwell is at 179.17 and Dowagiac at 189.
The Wolverine Conference is back in action Thursday as Three Rivers hosts the next jamboree at Sauganash.
