Chieftains fall to Hartford

HARTFORD — The Dowagiac soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to host Hartford Thursday.

The Chieftains lone goal was scored by Daniela Morales.

Dowagiac finished with 15 shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Kayla Contreras stopped 16 shots by the Indians.

“Chieftains played extremely well despite the score they move the ball very well tonight and played with intensity,” said Dowagiac coach Chad Davis. “I was very happy with the play of our young team.”

Division 3 districts

The Division 3 district soccer tournament draw was announced Friday.

The Chieftains will travel to Coloma for its opening round match against the Comets May 29.

No start time was announced.

Other first-round matchups include Berrien Springs traveling to Parchment and Comstock traveling to Paw Paw.

District host Buchanan drew an opening round bye.

The semifinals will be played May 31.

Buchanan will host the winner of the Dowagiac-Coloma match at 5 p.m.

The site of the other semifinal has not been announced.

The championship match at Buchanan is scheduled for June 2.

Admission is $5 per person and no passes will be accepted.

Niles Doubles Tournament

Edwardsburg easily captured the team championship as it scored 11 points compared to four points for the runner-up Vikings.

Flight champions for the Eddies were Hannah Ahmed and Annika Smith, Eme Edman and McKinley Nadia, Annie Marks and Ashley Smith, as well as, Ava Padgett and Serena Rems and Paige Albright and Jenna McGann.

South Haven finished third with Buchanan placing fourth.

Niles was the runner-up in all six flights.
