HOWARD TOWNSHIP — Two Niles residents were transported to the hospital following a crash late Friday night, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were called to the scene of a two-car collision at 11:45 p.m. Friday after Charline Fortuna, 24, turned her Oldsmobile onto M-60 heading north, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck a southbound vehicle.
The southbound vehicle was driven by Melvin Cole III, 26, of Niles. Cole’s passengers included Scott Cole, 30, of Mishawaka and Amelia Swailes, 23, of Niles.
Joseph Fortuna, 27, of Niles, was a passenger in Charline Fortuna’s Oldsmobile. Joseph and Swailes were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital by SMCAS Ambulance for their injuries.
Joseph Fortuna was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, but Swailes was.
Police determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
