St. Joseph man arrested after alleged assault, refusal to cooperate with police

ST. JOSEPH — A male suspect who allegedly assaulted a woman and refused to come out of his residence when prompted by police was eventually taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, according to the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.
Officers received a call for a domestic disturbance around 4:33 p.m. to the 1700 block of Forres Ave. in St. Joseph. When they arrived at the scene, they spoke with a victim, who said she had been assaulted. The male subject refused to cooperate with police inside this residence and refused to come out. Officers had information he was intoxicated and armed with an unknown weapon.
As a precautionary measure, the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety contacted the Berrien County Sheriff Department for assistance. Through the cooperation of both agencies the subject was taken into custody and lodged at the Berrien County Sheriff Department. There were no injuries reported during this incident.
Police have not yet released the names of the suspect or victim involved in the incident.
The agencies involved include the Berrien County Sherriff Department road patrol, Berrien County Sheriff Department Tactical Response Unit and Berrien County Crisis Intervention Team.
