CASSOPOLIS — Freemasons Peninsular Lodge No. 10, of Dowagiac sponsored a reading challenge for Cassopolis second-graders at Sam Adams Elementary School. The second grade students got to put their name into a raffle for each book they read during the March Reading Month.
They drew the names of one girl and one boy and announced them at an assembly that was hosted at Sam Adams on March 27. The children were all very excited and the girl and boy who had their names drawn received a bicycle and a helmet, donated by the members of the Freemason Lodge.
This project is one of the newest charitable events that the Freemasons sponsor to encourage students in the community to continue to seek knowledge. The Freemasons hope to continue working with the school and other organizations to host this event every year during March.
The Freemason Lodge members thanked the Sam Adams Elementary School staff for helping them launch this program in Cassopolis and assisting with its implementation. Hayden Hardware in Cassopolis helped support the challenge.
