HOWARD TOWNSHIP — A Niles man was injured in a Howard Township crash Thursday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reported responding to a personal injury accident at 1:13 p.m. Thursday on Almaugus Drive near Lilac Drive in Howard Township.
Initial investigation shows that 68-year-old William Havener Jr., of Niles, was traveling westbound on Almausgus Drive on his motorcycle.
At the same time, 74-year-old Robert Elsworth Shoemaker, also of Niles, was travelling eastbound when Shoemaker attempted to turn into a private drive, crashing into Havener, throwing him off the bike. Havener was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Hospital in Niles for treatment.
Deputies have determined that alcohol was not a factor in a crash and that seatbelts and helmets were used.
