Published 8:40 am Wednesday, April 18, 2018
Roseann Marchetti, an Edwardsburg resident, has a long history of service to her community. Not only is she a Cass County Commissioner, but she volunteers at the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, helps hosts senior citizen commodities days, in addition to other volunteer work. One of her more recent volunteer ventures has been with the Uptown Improvement Association in Edwardsburg.
What is the UIA and what does it do?
It is a small group, but we accomplish quite a bit. We support the chamber and quite a few other community organizations.
We were responsible for adding LED snowflakes in town and for the garland at Library Park. We are having a paddle auction on Thursday, May 24 at the American Legion. The proceeds from that auction will go toward more snowflakes and adding garland around the other sides of the library. Paddle actions are really fun.
How long have you been volunteering with the UIA?
Three or four years.
What do you like about volunteering with the UIA?
I like the connection with the community. I like being involved. I really love my community and I’m just happy to do whatever I can for it.
How would you encourage others to volunteer in their communities?
If they enjoy the community and they are looking for something to do, get involved. Come to the UIA meeting. Help with the food pantry. There are ample opportunities for volunteering in the community.
