Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Donovan Sullivan

Donovan Sullivan is a junior on the Dowagiac boys basketball team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
DS: Making the playoffs in football.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
DS: Losing the playoff game during the final seconds.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
DS: My mom. She had cancer for a while, but she hasn’t let it stop her from doing what she wants in life. A big inspiration.
When are you the most nervous while you are
competing?
DS: During clutch times, like when the score is close and not a lot of time left.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
DS: Tripping while running up the basketball court.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
DS: I set a goal and plan my work out, then follow the plan.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
DS: None.
Why are sports an important part of a high school
experience?
DS: They teach you more than just how to play. You learn teamwork, etc.
How would you give away $50,000?
DS: I would give it to my mom to help with chemo.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
DS: I would choose basketball.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
DS: Sit at home and do nothing or end up making the wrong decision.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
DS: Trying to size up or put a body on players who are
bigger.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
DS: My football coach once told me he believes I’m one of the best tight ends to come out of our city.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
DS: A dunk.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
DS: Sports. They are a big part of my life.
