The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Tuesday, March 6
• 10:30 to 11 a.m. — Passport Pals
The community is invited for a special story time tour of the world. Each week, there will be books, songs, a craft, and other super surprises relating to the special country of the month.
• 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Tabletop RPG Night
The community is invited to play tabletop role playing games.
• 6 to 6:30 p.m. — Chips and Chapters
This activity includes a read aloud story time. Every Tuesday, Tara will read aloud from a chapter book, while listeners eat chips and follow along. All ages are welcome.
• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Lego Building Challenge
We have a bucket of Legos. You have the creativity. Make any creation and show it to the Youth Services staff. We just may take a picture to show all our followers on Facebook!
Wednesday, March 7
• Multiple times — Storytime day
Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
• 4 to 7 p.m. — Coupon Exchange
Join Ann in the Youth Services area for a twice-a-month coupon exchange (first and third Wednesdays). Bring the coupons you have that you won’t use and pick up some you will use. This program is open to teens and adults.
• 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. — Niles Public Arts Commission
The Niles Public Arts Commission is seeking members. For more information call the library at (269) 683-8545
• 7 to 8 p.m. — CDA Niles
Chemically Dependent Anonymous is a 12-step fellowship for anyone seeking freedom from drug and alcohol addiction. CDA Niles has a room reserved at the library every Monday and Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. For more information please visit cdaweb.org.
Thursday, March 8
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Connection
As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.
• 10 a.m. to noon — Special Edition: Movie Day
The movie feature will be “Moana.” All ages and abilities are welcome to the sensory sensitive showing. The volume isn’t too loud, and there’s room at the back for those who prefer not to sit still. Popcorn will be provided.
• 10:30 and 1:30 p.m. —
Storytime
Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.
• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — Mahjong
Volunteers are available weekly to teach people how to play Mahjong.
• 2 to 4 p.m. — All Ages Hangout
All ages and abilities are welcome to come hang out Thursday afternoons. There will be coffee and tea provided. Anyone is welcome to bring snacks to share.
• 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — iLive Free
iLive Free is a group that wants to be free from substance restraints. They meet every Thursday evening to inspire each other to enjoy living free. For more info, contact or text (269) 605-7895.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. — Teen Time
Come and hang out. The library has games, books, and a great place to study here in the Teen Department. Snacks are provided.
• 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Spring Local History Series
The community is welcome to join the library in the Rotunda as students from Saint Mary’s College, in partnership with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)- Rebecca Dewey Chapter, give a presentation on “Black Women and Activism”, which will highlight the accomplishments of women like Audre Lorde and local women like Lottie Wilson. This program is collaboration between the Niles History Center, Niles District Library, and Rebecca Dewey Chapter of the DAR.
Friday, March 9
• 10 a.m. to noon — TOPS
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization. TOPS offers tools and programs for healthy living and weight management, with exceptional group fellowship and recognition. Established in 1948 to champion weight-loss support and success, TOPS has helped millions of people live healthier lives. New members are welcome.
• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches
The community is invited to bring a yarn or sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Rookies are welcome. The teacher, David is here to provide help and instructions. A few loaner tools are available to help those new to the craft get started.
• 4:30 to 5:30 p. m. — Tween Book Club
This is a book discussion group for children ages 8 to 12. Our March read is “Tuck Everlasting” by Natalie Babbitt.
Saturday, March 10
• 9:30 to 11 a.m. — Basic Computer Class
The community is invited to join a Computer Basics class every month on the second Saturday. Class space is limited. To sign up, do so at the Information Desk, or call (269) 683-8545, ext. 112.
• 10:30 to 11 a.m. — Toddler Dance Party
This musical program is aimed for toddlers to help strengthen the brain and body muscles. Music will be used to reinforce hand eye coordination, cross-brain exercises, and tactile and sensory movements. This program is for those ages infant to 5.
•Noon to 1 p.m. — Pirate Party
The community is invited to a Pirate Party with: pirate story time, pirate crafts, and pirate games…argh.
• 1 to 2 p.m. — Jr. Garden Club
Each month, Ms. Ann will present a lesson on gardening and nature. There will also be a snack, and a craft connected with the topic. This group is for ages 3 to 12.
• 1 to 5 p.m. — Game Day for Adults
This activity is for those 18 or older, who like video games or board games. The community is welcome to join in for board games, cards, tabletop games, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U games set up and ready to be played. Players can bring their own games, too.
• 5:30 to 8 p.m. — Teen and Adult Nerf Night
Teens (13 and older) and adults are invited to come to the library for an after-hours round of Nerf games with an emphasis on strategy and teamwork. Registration is 5:30 to 6 p.m. Participants must have a signed waiver on file in order to play. Players are advised to arrive early.
