Dowagiac end regular season with 49-41 win over South Haven

The Dowagiac girls basketball team ended the regular season on a high note as it defeated visiting South Haven 49-41 in a Wolverine Conference crossover contest Thursday night.
The Rams (5-15) led 8-5 after one quarter, but was outscored by the Chieftains 44-33 over the final three quarter to improve their record to 5-15 heading into next week’s Class B district tournament at Paw Paw.
Dowagiac had a big second quarter as Hayden First scored nine of her 13 points as the Chieftains turned a three-point deficit into a tie game at halftime.
Dowagiac again outscored South Haven in the third quarter to take a 36-33 advantage into the final eight minutes of the regular season.
Greta Whitaker hit a late 3-pointer to seal the victory for the Chieftains, who take on Paw Paw in the district semifinals Wednesday night.
Allie Conner also scored 13 points for Dowagiac, which got seven points from Tania Parker-Wilson and five points from Jessie Hulett.
