DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac wrestling team received a No. 6 seed for the Division 3 state wrestling quarterfinals at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo Friday.

The Chieftains (26-8) will face No. 3-seeded Remus Chippewa Hills on Mat 1 beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The winner advances to the Division 3 semifinals at noon Saturday. All championship matches will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We will take the same approach that we have all year,” said Dowagiac coach Colin Burandt. “It will be business as usual. We need to show up and wrestle. I assumed we would get a decent seed, but whomever we get we will just go out and there and wrestle and leave it all on the mat.”

Dowagiac advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2004 with a 37-28 win over No. 7-ranked Lake Odessa Lakewood last Wednesday.

Chippewa Hills, ranked No. 3 in the latest Michigan Grappler ratings, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 57-18 victory over Caro.

Dundee, the No. 1 seed, will face Comstock Park on Mat 3, while No. 4-seeded Whitehall will face No. 5 seed Birch Run on Mat 2.

The final match will pit second-seeded Richmond against No. 7 seeded Alma on Mat 4.

In Division 2, Lakeshore received the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4-seeded Eaton Rapids on Mat 4 beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The Division 2 semifinals are also at noon on Saturday.

Tickets are $8 for the quarterfinals and semifinals. Championship tickets are $10 per person and no passes will be accepted.

An all-sessions pass is available for $25.
